Luna uses your basal metabolic rate (BMR) and adjusts it based on your current menstrual cycle phase. Research shows that metabolic rate fluctuates throughout the cycle — rising during the luteal phase and dipping during the follicular phase. Luna applies these scientifically-backed adjustments (from studies by Webb 1986, Barr 1995, Bisdee 1989, and others) to give you personalized daily targets for calories, protein, carbs, and fats.
Luna uses Google Gemini AI to estimate nutritional values from your meal photos. These are approximate estimates, not laboratory measurements. Actual values can vary depending on portion sizes, preparation methods, and ingredients. For maximum accuracy, you can always edit the scanned values manually. The scanner works best with clearly visible, well-lit photos of individual meals.
Your privacy is our top priority. Luna uses anonymous accounts — no email or real name is required to use the app. All data is protected by Row Level Security (RLS), meaning only you can access your own data. Your information is encrypted in transit, stored securely on Supabase infrastructure, and is never sold, shared with third parties, or used for advertising. You can delete all your data at any time from Settings.
Luna subscriptions are managed through Apple. To cancel: open your iPhone Settings → tap your name (Apple ID) at the top → Subscriptions → find Luna → tap Cancel Subscription. You will continue to have access to premium features until the end of your current billing period. No refunds are issued for partial periods.
If you've switched to a new iPhone or reinstalled Luna, your subscription should be restored automatically when you sign in with the same Apple ID. If it doesn't appear, go to Settings in the app and tap Restore Purchases. Make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID that was used for the original purchase.
Go to Settings → scroll to the bottom → tap Delete My Account. This will permanently and irreversibly delete all your data, including your meal photos, food logs, cycle data, health metrics, and account information. This action cannot be undone. If you have an active subscription, make sure to cancel it separately through Apple before deleting your account.
No. Luna is a wellness and nutrition tracking app, not a medical device. It is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease or medical condition. The cycle predictions, nutritional estimates, and health insights provided are for informational purposes only. Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice, especially if you have specific dietary needs or health conditions.
With your permission, Luna can read the following data from Apple Health: Active Energy Burned (to adjust your daily calorie targets), Step Count (for activity tracking), and Menstrual Cycle Data (to improve cycle phase predictions). Luna only reads this data — it never writes to Apple Health. You can revoke access at any time from iPhone Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Luna.
